One of the latest contributions to the smartphone market made by the leading face of the technological arena, Samsung, is the Samsung Omnia W I8350. It was released in the last quarter of the previous year. In today’s article, we will analyze this phone and weigh all its positives and negatives.
Ergonomics:
The Samsung Omnia W is a pretty compact headset except for its thickness which measures 10.9 mm. The footprint measures 115.6 * 58.8 mm. It sports a Super AMOLED touchscreen which makes it stand out among all other new Windows phone competitors. The resolution is not bad and the images look sharp enough and text is fairly legible. The overall design of the phone is actually no different from the standard Windows Phone look. It possesses the requisite three navigation keys below the screen with a Home button and a dedicated camera key plus LED flash which accompanies the 5 MP shooter on the back.
Operating System:
The phone runs on Microsoft Windows 7.5 Mango. The smartphone is powered by a 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor. The graphics is enabled by Adreno 205.
Memory:
The memory is not too extraordinary. It houses 8 GB internal storage and 512 MB RAM. The letdown is that it does not provide a card slot. So, the user cannot expand the memory.
Camera:
The Omnia W has a 5 MP shooter as its primary camera with features such as LED flash, geo-tagging and image stabilization. The camera does manage to balance colors quite appreciably but moving objects appear blurred in the images. The phone records 720p HD video at a frame rate of 30 fps. The video has no complaints so far – the microphone can capture the voice clearly and the footages are properly exposed. The phone has a VGA as the camera on the front.
Connectivity:
The phone has all the connectivity options that a smartphone of such a standard should be having such as 14.4 Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and FM Radio with RDS. It supports GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900. GPRS and EDGE facilities are present in the Omnia W. The phone also possesses Wi-Fi 802.11 b/ g/ n facility.
Battery Life:
The phone is fueled with a Standard battery of Li-Ion of power rating 1500 mAh. The stand by time offered by the phone is 370 hours and the talk time is 7 hours.
Price:
The phone is priced at around 355 USD.
Pros:
The pros of the Omnia W are its compact and lightweight structure; it gives a silky and smooth navigation and also a great in-call audio quality.
Cons:
The phone has some major disadvantages such as non-expandable storage and no mass storage. Bluetooth file transfers are not possible and flash is not supported in the browser.
Verdict:
After seeing where the Omnia W scores and fails, the phone can be judged to be a not-so-bad smartphone. Though it does not come with any extraordinary features such as dual core processor, capacious RAM, etc. But it gives a flawless performance and given the price tag, it’s a good phone to have.
